Arkansas' quarterback Green delivers an impressive six touchdowns, leading the team to a dominant 52-7 victory over Alabama A&M.
In the opening game of the 2022 college football season, the University of Arkansas Razorbacks showcased their prowess, defeating Alabama A&M by a score of 268-27. The game, played at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium, marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Razorbacks.
Quarterback KJ Jefferson, a transfer from Charlotte, stole the spotlight with an impressive performance. Jefferson threw for an impressive 322 yards, scoring a total of six touchdowns. His performance tied for the second most scoring passes in a single game in Arkansas history. CJ Brown and O'Mega Blake, also transfers, contributed significantly to the win, with Brown scoring two touchdowns and Blake leading the team with seven catches for 121 yards and a score.
The Razorbacks' offensive prowess was not limited to their new recruits, as ten different players caught a pass during the game. Three of the receivers Jefferson scored to were not on the Arkansas roster last year, indicating a promising future for the team. Taylen Green, another transfer, also impressed, scoring the only touchdown for Alabama A&M.
Alabama A&M scored on its first drive of the game, but the Razorbacks quickly asserted their dominance. The Bulldogs managed just 160 yards the rest of the game after their initial drive, struggling to keep up with the high-scoring Razorbacks.
Arkansas plays Arkansas State on Saturday in Little Rock, providing an opportunity for the team to continue their winning streak. Alabama A&M, on the other hand, hosts Alcorn State on Saturday.
It's important to note that while this victory is a positive start for the Razorbacks, they have yet to face a power-conference opponent. Alabama A&M isn't Alabama, and little will be known about the Razorbacks until mid-September when it plays its first game against a power-conference opponent.
Since 2005, the Razorbacks have played an FCS opponent each season, except for the 2020 COVID-shortened year. Five of the last seven such games for Arkansas have come against opponents from the Southwestern Athletic Conference.
