Armed assault in Izmir, Türkiye leads to fatal shooting of two police officers.
In a shocking turn of events, an attack took place at the Salih Isgoren Police Station in Izmir's Balcova district, Turkey. The assault, which occurred on undisclosed dates, has claimed the lives of two police officers and left others injured.
The 16-year-old suspect, identified only as E.B., is said to have used a pump-action shotgun in the attack. The motive behind this violent act remains unclear at this time.
Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Cemil Tugay swiftly condemned the attack, labelling it a "treacherous attack." In a statement, Tugay expressed his deep sadness and offered condolences to the families of the martyred police officers. He also wished a speedy recovery to the wounded officers.
The injured officers were transported to Dokuz Eylul University Research and Application Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, the identities of the victims have not been released yet.
Justice Minister Yilmaz Tunc announced a comprehensive judicial investigation initiated by the Izmir Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. Two deputy chief prosecutors and six prosecutors have been assigned to the case to ensure a thorough and meticulous investigation from all angles.
The suspect, E.B., has been apprehended by Turkish authorities. According to reports, Eren Bigül, the suspect's real name, attacked the police station and killed two police officers, First Class Police Chief Muhsin Aydemir and Police Officer Hasan Akin, and injured others, including Police Officer Murat Dagli who sustained minor injuries, and a third officer, Police Officer Omer Amilag, who sustained critical injuries.
Tugay also prayed for Allah's mercy on the martyred police officers and reiterated his hope for strength for their families to bear the loss. The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, and more updates will be provided as information becomes available.
