Arrest and Incarceration of Three Migrants by the Munich Federal Police Directorate
In a series of events at the Lindau-Ziegelhaus border crossing, authorities have made several significant arrests and initiated deportation proceedings.
On May 23rd, an Afghan passenger on a Lyon-Prague bus was apprehended by the Bundespolizeiinspektion Kempten. The Afghan man, who had been known to the German police since November 2015, was found with a valid German fictitious certificate and drugs. Due to the drugs found, his five-year ban on entering and staying in the Federal Republic was extended to seven years. The Afghan man was taken into pre-trial detention at the Kempten Prison and later presented to the Kempten District Court for violating the court's conditions.
In a separate incident on the same day, a Romanian woman was apprehended at the same border crossing. An arrest warrant issued by the Munich I Public Prosecutor's Office on April 10th charged her with violating the Narcotics Act. The Romanian woman was taken to the Memmingen Prison to serve a substitute custodial sentence due to her inability to pay her outstanding debts of almost 5,000 euros.
The Bundespolizeiinspektion Kempten, responsible for border security, transportation security at airports and railways, and combating cross-border crime in its region, has been actively involved in these incidents. The Kempten office oversees 560 route kilometers and 91 railway stations, and its area of responsibility includes the districts of Landsberg am Lech, Lindau, Ober-, Ost-, Unterallgäu, and Weilheim-Schongau, as well as the independent cities of Kaufbeuren, Kempten, and Memmingen. The Kempten office is also responsible for 220 kilometers of the Schengen internal border with Austria.
In another case, an Algerian passenger on the same bus was found to have misused a Spanish passport, which was on the Schengen-wide wanted list due to loss or theft in November. The Algerian was known to the German police under eleven other identities and had applied for asylum in multiple countries since 2016 without success. He was wanted by the Hamburg Public Prosecutor's Office for a violation of the Narcotics Act and was taken before the Lindau District Court. The Federal Police secured the Spanish passport, charged the Algerian with misuse of identity documents and attempted illegal entry, and imposed a four-year re-entry ban on him. He was later put in the Eichstätt detention facility in the evening, from where he is to be deported back to his home country.
The Afghan man, who was still on probation until February 2027, had a history of various sexual and drug-related offenses. Following his detention, the immigration office was informed for possible deportation measures. The current Police Director of the Federal Police Directorate Munich is not specified in the provided sources. However, the Federal Police Directorate Munich is responsible for federal police tasks in its region, including border security, transportation security at airports and railways, and combating cross-border crime.
These incidents underscore the ongoing efforts by the Bundespolizeiinspektion Kempten and other law enforcement agencies to maintain safety and security at Germany's borders and transportation hubs.
