Arrest for Driving Infraction: No Ticket Issued, Still Results in Detention - BPOLI MD
In a significant development, a 22-year-old Iraqi man was taken into custody by the Federal Police in Halle (Saale) on July 15, 2025. The arrest was the result of a ticket check on an S-Bahn from Leipzig to Halle, where it was discovered that the man's single-journey ticket had expired.
Upon further investigation, a check of the man's personal data in the police information system revealed that the Public Prosecutor's Office in Nuremberg-Fürth has been searching for him since June 2025 on suspicion of counterfeiting money.
The police authority investigating the suspect is the police inspection of Hameln-Pyrmont/Holzminden in coordination with the public prosecutor’s office in Hildesheim. Europol and Eurojust have also supported the investigations since 2023.
The Federal Police officers showed the Iraqi the arrest warrant and took him into custody. He was then taken to the station at the central station. After the remand hearing at Halle (Saale) District Court, the detention was confirmed, and the 22-year-old was subsequently taken to a detention facility.
