The saga began on Friday afternoon, when the suspect was first spotted at a hardware store in Fürth's Fritz-Gastreich-Straße. Witnesses reported that he committed a theft and assaulted a 75-year-old employee with pepper spray.
On Saturday, the man returned to an Erlangen hardware store, where he attacked another employee with pepper spray, leading to a physical struggle. The incident resulted in a provisional arrest by a patrol from Erlangen-Stadt police station at the scene.
The man's vehicle was also searched by the police, which yielded more evidence of his alleged crimes. Officers found more suspected stolen goods in the suspect's vehicle, including items from the previous day and that morning.

The man also targeted a hardware store in Erlangen's Neumühle on Saturday, where he was observed on video surveillance committing another theft but could not be held at the time.
