In a significant shift for the Canadian market, Tesla's Model Y electric SUVs have officially arrived in the country, marking the automaker's first direct imports from Europe. The first shipment, offloaded at the Dartmouth Autoport in Halifax, Nova Scotia, signifies a change in Tesla's supply chain logistics.

This change has been prompted by escalating tariffs on Chinese and U.S.-made EVs, which have led Tesla to source Model Y inventory from Giga Berlin in Germany to avoid steep import penalties. The German facility, which primarily serves the European market, has scaled up production significantly since its 2022 opening, reaching output levels that now make exports feasible.

For Canadian buyers, this change means access to vehicles at prices lower than if they had been imported from the U.S. or China under the existing tariff regime. The Model Y, now priced at $5,000 below pre-tariff levels, ends up costing about the same as it did before the tariffs for many buyers.

Currently, the Model Y Long Range is the only variant available in Canada, priced at $64,990. However, the Model Y Performance, which has started production at Giga Berlin, is not yet available to purchase in Canada.

The first deliveries of the imported Model Y vehicles are expected to begin within the next two weeks, primarily occurring in eastern Canada due to its proximity to Nova Scotia. Unfortunately, there is currently no publicly available information about which Canadian cities will receive Tesla Model Y vehicles built at Giga Berlin within the next two weeks.

Buyers can still receive a $5,000 federal rebate on the Model Y, making it an attractive option for those looking to make the switch to electric vehicles. The Model Y's arrival in Canada is a testament to Tesla's commitment to expanding its presence in the global market and providing affordable, high-quality electric vehicles to customers worldwide.

This news is sure to excite Tesla fans in Canada, who have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Model Y. With its sleek design, impressive performance, and now competitive pricing, the Model Y is poised to make a significant impact on the Canadian market. Stay tuned for more updates on the rollout of the Model Y in Canada.
