Football fans are gearing up for the highly anticipated match between Hannover 96 and 1. FC Magdeburg, scheduled to take place at the Heinz von Heiden Arena on August 23, 2025, at 1 p.m. With numerous fans expected to attend, many will be travelling by train. Here's what you need to know.
The Federal Police Inspectorate Magdeburg, in collaboration with the Federal Police Inspectorate Hannover, has issued travel advice for fans from Magdeburg. They recommend switching to the S-Bahn at Hannover Central Station and using the main train stations in Braunschweig (for a change) and Hannover. Up to 1,500 away fans from Magdeburg are expected to travel to Hannover by train, and the police forces will be deployed in increased numbers for the safety and order of the railway premises and trains.
For those arriving at Waterloo stop, it's a short walk to the stadium. Away fans from Magdeburg will primarily enter the Heinz von Heiden Arena via the southern area. The same route recommendations apply for the return journey.
For Hannover 96 supporters and other football fans who travel by train, it is recommended to switch to the city trams of ÜSTRA at the central station. Lines S1, S2, or S5 depart from platform 1 to Hannover Linden/Fischerhof station, which is within a short walking distance from the stadium.
In addition, there will be a significantly increased use of regional and long-distance trains on the Magdeburg - Braunschweig - Hannover railway line, as well as on the Halberstadt - Goslar - Hannover railway line and the Stendal - Wolfsburg - Hannover railway line.
