Arson in a Multiple-Unit Residence in Bötzingen leads to Arrest of Suspect
Fire at Refugee Accommodation in Bötzingen: Suspect in Custody
A fire that broke out at a communal refugee accommodation in Rathausstraße, Bötzingen, on Monday evening has been contained, and the suspect responsible for the incident has been arrested.
According to a statement from the Police Headquarters Freiburg via news aktuell, the incident was reported around 19:50 on Monday. Witnesses have reportedly stated that the suspect, a 30-year-old Iraqi national, is believed to have started the fire.
The fire, which is suspected to be arson, was found to have several arson points in an apartment within the refugee accommodation. Thankfully, no one was injured in the fire as all residents of the building had left the premises in time.
The volunteer fire departments from Bötzingen and Eichstetten were able to extinguish the fire, and the scene of the crime has been secured. The affected apartment remains uninhabitable for the time being due to the extent of the damage.
The estimated material damage is approximately 200,000 EUR. The police were able to arrest the suspect near the scene of the crime. The police official responsible for the arrest has not been publicly specified.
