Artist conferred with 'national title' in the field of visual arts by the princess

Thailand's Culture Ministry Honours 11 as National Artists

The Culture Minister, Paetongtarn Shinawatra, has announced the results of the National Culture Committee's annual selection, which saw 11 individuals, including HRH Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana, being honoured as National Artists.

HRH Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana has been conferred the honorary title of "Sirisinlapin National Artist" by the Culture Ministry. This recognition was bestowed upon her for her outstanding work in painting. Ms Paetongtarn expressed her honour in conferring the title upon the Princess, acknowledging her artistic brilliance and dedication to preserving Thai identity through visual arts.

In the visual arts category, Assoc Prof Wiwat Temiyapan was awarded for his work in vernacular architecture. Somlak Pantiboon was also honoured for his exceptional work in ceramics. Wirot Yusawasdi was granted for his performance in the monkey role in the traditional Thai dance, khon.

In the literary arts category, Rewat Phunpipat and Wanna Sawatsri were recognised for their significant contributions. Rewat Phunpipat is known for his profound works in literature, while Wanna Sawatsri has made a mark in children's literature.

In the performing arts category, Naruephon Duriya-phan was honoured for her exceptional work in Thai music (vocal). Pakorn Pornpisut was awarded for his contributions to Thai dance, particularly in the khon and drama genres. Nantawan Mekyai Suwanpiyasiri was honoured for her work in film and television.

Maj Praphatsak Chanpleng was awarded as a Luk thung singer, a genre close to the hearts of many Thais. Danu Huntrakoon was honoured in the contemporary Thai music category.

In addition to the title and recognition, National Artists will receive a monthly stipend of 25,000 baht. They will also be eligible for visitation allowances up to 3,000 baht, medical benefits up to 100,000 baht per fiscal year, disaster relief up to 50,000 baht per incident, and funeral support of 20,000 baht, along with publication assistance up to 150,000 baht.

The royal decree granting HRH Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana the honorary title "Sirisinlapin National Artist" was issued by the King of Thailand. The ministry will seek royal permission to present the recipients to His Majesty the King and Her Majesty the Queen.

This selection recognises outstanding figures in three categories: visual arts, literary arts, and performing arts, aiming to honour and support the continued growth and development of Thailand's rich cultural heritage.
