Artists Collectively titled "Rag Tag" pay homage to their late companion, artist William 'Bill' Dirkes, by completing his incomplete piece for the BCM's freshART auction.
The Behringer-Crawford Museum (BCM) is set to host its 33rd annual freshART party and live auction on a Saturday evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This year's event is extra special as BCM celebrates its 75th anniversary.
The evening promises to be an event of art, friendship, and community, all supporting BCM's education programs for children and families. The event will feature a live art auction led by David Wallace, live music by Chris Cusentino and Brad Meinerding of The Turkeys, and food from The Roost in Latonia.
A highlight of this year's auction is a collaborative artwork titled "Last Ride," which was entrusted to Jim Conroy and completed by a group of artists known as the "Rag Tag Artists." The piece was inspired by a panel sketch left behind by Bill Dirkes, a beloved artist and longtime participant who passed away recently.
Bill Dirkes was a talented commercial and fine artist, known for capturing the beauty of rural life in acrylics and oils. His wife, Cheryl, stated that Dirkes did not want flowers or memorials, but rather wanted something that helps others. In line with his wishes, 100% of the proceeds from the sale of "Last Ride" will be donated to Behringer-Crawford Museum's youth education programs in Dirkes' name.
Guests who cannot attend the party can designate a bidder through the auction site to bid on their behalf. Tickets for the event can be purchased online at bcmuseum.networkforgood.com for $60 per person. All attendees are encouraged to pre-register online for quick and easy entry on auction night.
Since its start in 1992, freshART has raised over $1 million for BCM's youth education programs. The public can bid on "Last Ride" through Saturday, Sept. 6 at 9:30 p.m. on BCM's silentART auction website. SilentART bidding is already open.
For more information, visit bcmuseum.org. The collaboration on "Last Ride" fulfills Dirkes' wish, ensuring that his memory continues to uplift others through creativity, learning, and community. Dirkes was a humble and generous soul who encouraged and supported those around him. His legacy will undoubtedly live on through the impact of freshART.
