Asia witnesses Vietnam's ascension as a prominent destination for lavish wedding tourism.

The global wedding tourism market is expanding rapidly, with an annual growth rate of 32.8%, and is expected to reach $134 billion by 2027. This growth is not limited to faraway destinations; any place with the right infrastructure, service, and emotional resonance can become a wedding destination.

Vietnam, with its competitive costs compared to hosting the same event directly in India, is considered a competitive destination for luxury weddings. Of the roughly eight million weddings in India each year, only about 5,000 are held overseas, mostly by the super-rich. These still generate $5.8 billion in outbound tourism spending.

Two popular destinations for lavish Indian weddings in Vietnam are Phu Quoc and Danang. The varied natural settings and network of high-end beach resorts are considered strengths in attracting high-spending customers. In fact, the premium event market in Vietnam has seen significant growth for over five years.

JW Marriott Phu Quoc has been consecutively named the "World's Leading Luxury Wedding Resort" by the World Travel Awards from 2019 to 2023. The Sheraton Saigon Grand Opera Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City offers a unique blend of cultural heritage, modern architecture, and globally recognized 5-star service for weddings.

The high-end event industry in Vietnam is being shaped by three key trends: personalisation, sustainability, and multisensory experiences. Couples can exchange vows at distinctive settings like the Winter Garden on the fifth floor or the 23rd floor overlooking the Saigon River.

Other destinations such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam are increasingly preferred by North American and Asian clients for luxury weddings. The Grand Opera Tower, soon to be launched, will stand as a new symbol of grandeur in Ho Chi Minh City's wedding and events scene.

The number of Indian weddings held at Marriott International hotels across Asia increased by more than 30% in the five years leading up to 2024, with spending per event increasing by up to 50%. Hilton has seen strong growth in the premium event market, particularly in Bali, Indonesia, where the number of Indian weddings doubled in 2024.

Assoc. Prof. Pham Hong Long suggests stronger promotion and advertising, researching suitable culinary offerings, setting competitive prices, improving product quality, and providing specialized training for staff to maximize Vietnam's potential in the luxury wedding market.

The strong transformation of the luxury event sector in Vietnam was highlighted at the Wedding Symphony 2025, held in Ho Chi Minh City. This event showcased the country's emergence as a hub for luxury wedding tourism in Asia.

With its growing reputation and attractive offerings, it's clear that Vietnam is poised to become a leading destination for luxury weddings in the coming years.
