Astell & Kern's innovative portable music player also functions as a home streaming device
Astell&Kern, a South Korean company known for its high-performance digital audio players, has launched a new product - the PD10. This portable Hi-Fi player is designed for those who want high-quality audio without the need for traditional separates.
The PD10 is a more technologically advanced two-in-one portable player/streamer compared to the A&K SR35 player and WiiM Pro Plus or Cambridge Audio MXN10 streamer. It boasts a stainless steel and glass design with a Full HD 6-inch touchscreen display, making it both stylish and functional.
At its core, the PD10 uses the same HEXA audio circuit design as the flagship SP3000 player. It supports high-resolution file playback up to 32-bit/784kHz PCM and DSD512, ensuring a superior audio experience. The device also offers 15 hours of battery life, making it ideal for on-the-go use.
The PD10 is equipped with two amplifiers, each with different sound tunings: Normal Gain AMP and High Gain AMP. This provides users with the flexibility to adjust the audio output according to their preferences. The device's USB-C port can be used for charging, file transfer, and as a DAC, adding to its versatility.
For wireless compatibility, the PD10 includes Bluetooth 5.3, supporting aptX HD, LHDC, and LDAC codecs. The device's cradle has a color-coded LED that displays the current track's bitrate, providing an easy way to monitor the audio quality.
The PD10's docking cradle has a pair of balanced XLR outputs for connecting to active speakers or a home system's two-channel amplifier. This allows the PD10 to be transformed into a music streamer for home audio systems, expanding its capabilities beyond portable use.
The PD10's volume button controls output levels and sets a fixed level with the line out option. It also supports various hi-fi products and storage: wi-fi, AirPlay, DLNA, and Roon Ready certified, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of devices.
The PD10 uses two AKM AK4191EQ chips for digital signals and four AKM AK4498EX DAC chips for analogue stages, ensuring a high-quality audio experience.
