Germany's basketball team faced a tough challenge in the European Championship (EM) quarterfinals against underdog Portugal. The team, coached by Alex Mumbru, who returned to the sidelines after missing the group stage due to illness, started the game carelessly and unconcerned, falling behind 2:7.

Despite the early setback, Germany managed to turn the game around by the end of the first quarter (17:12), but the shine of the group stage was not apparent. The team struggled to find a rhythm from beyond the arc, making only one of 18 three-point attempts in the first half. This poor shooting performance, coupled with missed opportunities for good shots, left Germany nervous and struggling to keep up with Portugal.

At halftime, assistant coach Alan Ibrahimagic mentioned that Germany had missed many good shots and become tense. Head coach Mumbru, who sat more often than usual but also gave instructions during the game, shared coaching responsibilities with Ibrahimagic. Ibrahimagic, who took over and led the team during the group stage, guiding them to five convincing wins in five games, also saw a difficult game and mentioned that Portugal made it hard for them.

The game remained challenging for Germany for three quarters, but Maodo Lo sank the second German three-pointer in the latter part of the third quarter, and Germany led by just one point going into the final quarter (52:51). Captain Dennis Schröder rallied the team and said everyone who touched the court contributed to the win. Germany eventually secured a spot in the EM quarterfinals with a 85:58 victory against Portugal.

Looking ahead, Germany will face either Italy or Slovenia in the semifinals, which features NBA star Luka Doncic. The NBA star against whom Germany could play in the EM semifinal is Alperen Sengün from Turkey. Germany's opponent in the final is Turkey, featuring NBA player Sengün, who is considered the toughest challenge for Germany in the tournament. To reach the semifinals, Germany will need a significant performance improvement and a return to their form from the group stage.

Ibrahimagic mentioned at halftime that Germany missed many good shots and became nervous. Germany will need to address these issues if they hope to advance further in the tournament and claim the EM title. With the tough competition ahead, it will be a challenging road for Germany, but they have shown resilience and determination in the past, and they will need to rely on these qualities to overcome their opponents and reach the final.
