In a closely contested match, Germany's basketball team secured their place in the quarter-finals of EuroBasket 2025 with a hard-fought victory over Portugal. The final score was 99:91, with Germany emerging as the winner.

The game was a tough one for the world champions, who struggled to find their rhythm from beyond the arc, making only one of 18 three-point attempts in the first half. Despite this, Maodo Lo managed to score Germany's second three-pointer at the end of the third quarter, giving them a slim one-point lead going into the final period (52:51).

Captain Dennis Schröder addressed the team after the game, praising everyone who played a part in the victory. Schröder and Franz Wagner were the top scorers for Germany, each scoring 16 points.

Coach Ibrahimagic mentioned that the team missed many good shots, leading to nervousness and tension. Assistant coach Alan Ibrahimagic, who led the team during Mumbru's absence, won five games in a row during the group stage. Mumbru had taken over more of the reins and led the training on Friday prior to the game against Portugal. However, he had been absent due to an "acute abdomen" and was hospitalized in Tampere. He returned to the sidelines for the first time during the European Championship.

Germany's performance in the quarter-finals against Portugal was their weakest of the tournament so far. They were behind at halftime for the first time in the tournament (31:32). However, despite a tough final quarter, Germany's significantly higher quality shone through in the end.

The quarter-finals will be against either Italy or Slovenia, featuring NBA superstar Luka Doncic. The winner of this match will face either Finland or Georgia in the semifinals, scheduled for September 12, 2025. Germany played against Slovenia in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, September 10, 2025.

As Germany advances to the semifinals, they will aim to regain their form and continue their pursuit of the EuroBasket 2025 title.
