Atlantic Hockey and Hockey East Playoffs Announced for Upcoming Season
Holy Cross Ice Hockey: A Successful 2024-2025 Season So Far
The Holy Cross Ice Hockey teams have had a commendable season, with both the men's and women's teams showing significant progress. Let's take a closer look at the achievements of each team.
Men's Hockey
The men's team has had an impressive run this season, extending their winning streak to 8 games before the final week of the regular season. However, their streak came to an end in their last game against Bentley, resulting in a 5-1 loss and a 18-12-4 record for the regular season - the best finish in eight years. Despite this setback, the team clinched the 2 seed for the playoffs, securing home ice advantage until the finals. They will host the first round of the playoffs over the March 8-10 weekend after Spring Break.
Women's Hockey
The women's team, on the other hand, is yet to finish their regular season before the winter break. However, they managed to snap an 8-game losing streak, which is a positive sign for the team. Unfortunately, they ended the season last in Hockey East, 11 points behind ninth place Merrimack.
Playoff Scenarios
In the playoffs, the men's team is currently positioned second in Atlantic Hockey, while the women's team, as the 10 seed, will play Boston University in their play-in game. If the women's team manages to win against BU, they would play first place Connecticut in the next round.
Meanwhile, AIC will travel to Colorado to take on the Air Force Academy in the quarterfinals. The five teams receiving first round byes into the quarterfinals are RIT, Holy Cross, Sacred Heart, Air Force, and AIC.
Coaching and Venue
The men's hockey team is under the leadership of Bill Riga for the 2024-2025 season. All home games for both teams have been held at the Hart Center this season.
The 2024-2025 season has been good for both Holy Cross Ice Hockey programs, with the men's team starting the season a little slowly but recovering strongly, and the women's team showing resilience in overcoming their losing streak. As the playoffs approach, both teams will be aiming to make the most of their opportunities and continue their successful season.
