The Audi plant in Puebla, Mexico, will soon be back in operation following a temporary closure, as Volkswagen Puebla has announced plans to send workers back to the facility on June 16th. This news comes alongside a significant investment by Audi Mexico, who will inject one billion euros into the factory to produce vehicles with e-tron technology.

This investment is expected to generate 500 new direct jobs at the Audi plant, contributing to the economic growth of the region. In addition, the investment will provide growth opportunities to various business partners and small and medium-sized companies.

Audi's executive president, Tarek Mashhour, has stated that the initial focus will be on infrastructure and equipment adaptations for electromobility. Mashhour has also called for Puebla's authorities to prioritise training talent in electric mobility issues, such as software, new technologies, and battery production.

The local government, led by Governor Sergio Salomón Céspedes Peregrina, has expressed its support for this initiative. Peregrina stated that Puebla will be positioned as one of the places with the greatest economic development, and the Secretary of Economy, Ermilo Barrera Novelo, commented that Puebla has the conditions to be the spearhead of Industry 4.0 and to become an electromobility hub.

The authorities in Puebla have been urged to collaborate with local government officials and educational institutions to train talents in mobile electrotechnology, software development, new technology development, and battery production. This collaboration is seen as crucial for ensuring the success of Audi's electric vehicle manufacturing plans in Puebla.

With this investment, Audi aims to further solidify its presence in Mexico and contribute to the country's growing focus on electric vehicle manufacturing. The news is a positive step towards positioning Puebla as a key player in the global electromobility industry.
