Audience's Attention: At a recent hunting event, arresting displays of diamond portraits of UAE leaders have drawn widespread notice
Fakhri Tarabein, a jewellery fusion artist and diamond coating innovator, has made headlines with his impressive creation – the first and largest world diamond plate depicting two portraits of Sheikh Mohammed and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The exact date of creation is not specified in available information, but the artwork, valued at Dh120,000, represents the high morals and Emirati culture.
Tarabein's creations also include diamond-coated football boots for Cristiano Ronaldo and a diamond-coated golden falcon for ADIHEX 2025. The portraits, produced in collaboration with Italian artisans in Verona, are certified by the Italian Gemological Institute and cost Dh600,000 each.
Michel Van Den Born, a Dutch contemporary sculptor, also showcased his work at ADIHEX 2025. Known for his meticulous detail that often finds buyers among royal families in the Middle East, Van Den Born presented gold-plated sculptures of falcons, rifles, and a winged lion. His artistry is rooted in his original trade as a goldsmith, which he started after a heavy armed robbery in his atelier in Holland in 2008.
Rania Al Boaini, a Syrian-born artist and graphic designer, also unveiled a vast mixed-media work of Sheikh Mohamed at the event. Al Boaini, who completed a painting of Sheikh Mohamed that took nearly a year and a half to create, showcased her work at ADIHEX 2025. The piece features gazelle and camel skin, Italian-crafted leather, intricate mosaic glass, crystal, and shell, creating a textured surface that shifts between military camouflage and geometric abstraction.
In addition to her artistic pursuits, Haneen Dajani, a special correspondent in Abu Dhabi with over 15 years of reporting experience, is also a passionate athlete, full Ironman finisher, and mountaineer who loves to embark on unusual challenges.
The UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar are considered a very good market for Van Den Born's art, with his works often finding buyers among royal families in the region. Tarabein's diamond portraits, each containing over 184 carats of natural diamonds and weighing over 180 pounds, with frames plated in 24-karat gold, are sure to capture the attention of art enthusiasts and collectors alike.
