Australia unveils roster for New Zealand T20 matches: Excludes Cummins, reunites trio of versatile players
Matthew Short is set to make a comeback to the Australian cricket team after missing the West Indies series in July due to a side strain sustained in training. The all-rounder will also be joined by Mitchell Owen, who returns to the squad after missing the final T20I against South Africa and the subsequent ODI series against them due to a concussion.
Unfortunately, Pat Cummins will miss the three ODIs and five T20Is against India at home, as well as the T20I series against New Zealand, due to lumbar bone stress. This means that Mitchell Marsh will captain the Australia T20 squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand, which begins on October 1 at Bay Oval in Tauranga.
Seamer Nathan Ellis is unavailable due to paternity leave, and Alex Carey, Aaron Hardie, and Cameron Green have been left out of the Australia T20 squad. However, the squad includes several familiar faces such as Sean Abbott, Xavier Bartlett, Tim David, Ben Dwarshius, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Matt Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis, Adam Zampa, and Short.
Xavier Bartlett, who was Australia's leading wicket-taker among pacers in the recently concluded ODI series against South Africa, will be hoping to continue his impressive form in the upcoming T20I series. Stoinis, who had called time on his ODI career in February before the Champions Trophy, returns to the squad for the first time since November last year.
Since then, Stoinis has had two runner-up finishes in three global franchise T20 leagues. Matt Short, who also suffered a quad injury, which ruled him out of Australia's Champions Trophy semi-final against India and hasn't played an international match since then, will be eager to make an impact in the T20I series against New Zealand.
Cameron Green, who prioritizes playing the early rounds of the Sheffield Shield for Western Australia, is not part of the Australia T20 squad for the series against New Zealand. The Australia T20 squad for the series against New Zealand is as follows:
Sean Abbott Xavier Bartlett Tim David Ben Dwarshius Josh Hazlewood Travis Head Josh Inglis Matt Kuhnemann Glenn Maxwell Mitchell Owen Matthew Short Marcus Stoinis Adam Zampa Mitchell Marsh (Captain)
The New Zealand T20I series promises to be an exciting contest, with Michael Bracewell leading the Kiwis in the absence of regular captain Kane Williamson. Let's hope for some thrilling cricket as both teams take to the field!
