Australian fugitive's spouse appeals for his capture, implicating him in the slaying of two police officers.
In a heartfelt statement released through her lawyer, Amalia Freeman, the wife of the suspected gunman, has called for her husband, Dezi Freeman, to surrender to the authorities. The 42-year-old woman expressed her deep sorrow for the loss of life of detectives Neal Thompson (59 years old) and senior constable Vadim De Waart (35 years old), who were killed in a shooting at Freeman's home in the northeast of Victoria state.
Dezi Freeman, a 56-year-old man, is wanted in connection with the tragic incident. He is believed to have bush survival skills and a good knowledge of the area, having fled into the bush after opening fire on a team of 10 police officers. More than 450 police officers have been involved in the search for Freeman.
In her statement, Amalia Freeman expressed her support for the Victoria Police in their search for her husband and urged for a "swift and safe conclusion" to the situation. She also stated that she and her children respect the important work of Victoria Police and do not hold anti-authority views.
Amalia Freeman and her 15-year-old son were arrested and questioned as part of the investigation into the killings, but were later released. A third police officer was wounded in the lower body but is expected to recover.
Australian media have labeled Freeman as a radicalized conspiracy theorist and a member of the "sovereign citizen" movement. It is unclear whether he belongs to any specific organization or group, but his actions have resulted in a tragic loss of life.
The Victoria Police continue to appeal for any information that may lead to the capture of Dezi Freeman. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
