Austria makes a third demand for payment from the European Commission
The European Commission has approved the disbursement of a substantial grant worth €515.5 million to the Republic of Austria, as part of the country's third application for funding. This announcement was made on July 25, 2025, following the adoption of a report by the Council of Ministers on July 23, 2025.
The funds are intended to support a variety of projects aimed at promoting sustainability and innovation. One such project is the "Repair Bonus" scheme, which aims to encourage the repair of 200,000 electrical and electronic devices, thereby reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.
Austria is also investing in 5,000 Deposit Return Machines as part of this grant. These machines will contribute to the recycling of beverage containers, furthering Austria's commitment to environmental sustainability.
The grant will also fund the "Community Nursing" initiative, which currently has 150 active community nurses. This initiative is designed to improve healthcare services for vulnerable individuals.
The IPCEI projects in Austria are strategic funding projects involving several EU member states. These projects are focused on microelectronics and hydrogen, with the launch of these initiatives in Austria set to bolster groundbreaking innovations and infrastructure in these fields.
Tendering for buses and commercial vehicles with zero-emission drives is also underway in Austria, demonstrating the country's commitment to reducing carbon emissions and promoting clean energy solutions.
It's important to note that the disbursement of the third payment claim is contingent on the successful achievement of the 20 milestones and target values (waypoints) outlined in the grant agreement. Austria must achieve a total of 178 milestones by the end of 2026 to fully access the €4 billion in EU recovery plan funds.
However, there is currently no publicly available information about who submitted the third proxy application of the Republic of Austria to the European Commission involving 515.5 million euros on August 11, 2025.
In addition, grant approvals have been made for the thermal renovation of over 480 housing units for vulnerable persons, further demonstrating the grant's focus on social and environmental sustainability.
This latest disbursement is a significant step forward in Austria's efforts to promote a sustainable and innovative future, and it reinforces the country's commitment to working closely with the European Commission to achieve common goals.
