In the heart of Covington, the Chu family's latest venture, KungBrew Cafe, has made a significant impact on the city's thriving food scene. Located in MainStrasse Village at 640 Main St., KungBrew Cafe is another expression of the Chu family's creativity and love for the city.

The coffee and tea shop, which opened its doors in 2017, has been warmly welcomed by the community. City officials, including Patrick Duffy, Covington Business Retention and Expansion Manager, have praised KungBrew Cafe, acknowledging it as another contribution to the flavorful, fearless, and characterful city of Covington.

Duffy has expressed gratitude to Johnny, one of the owners of KungBrew Cafe, and the entire team for their continued contributions to the city. "KungBrew Cafe is a perfect addition to MainStrasse Village," Duffy said. "It's a testament to the city's vibrant and unforgettable food scene."

The Chu family's presence in Covington extends beyond KungBrew Cafe. In 2008, they opened KungFood AmerAsia at 521 Madison Ave., a restaurant that significantly impacted the city's food scene. KungFood AmerAsia is more than just a restaurant; it's a work of art, with cool eclectic decor and a menu inspired by Hunan, Szechuan, and Taiwanese cuisine.

In 2025, KungFood AmerAsia was one of the winners of the Authenti-CITY awards given by the City of Covington. The awards were given at a ceremony last week to mark the National Economic Development Week.

Johnny Chu, the talented artist behind both establishments, has played a crucial role in the success of both KungFood AmerAsia and KungBrew Cafe. The interior of KungFood AmerAsia features kung fu movie posters, Asian art, and may even feature Wu-Tang music.

The City of Covington has recognised both KungFood AmerAsia and KungBrew Cafe as significant additions to its community, further enriching its food scene. The Chu family's ongoing efforts, through these businesses and others, continue to contribute to the city's unique and diverse culinary landscape.
