Authorities have acquired the contents from a rooftop storage bin.
On Tuesday evening at 7:30 PM, a roof box containing various items opened on Autobahn 45 in the Langenselbold triangle area, heading towards Aschaffenburg. The top part of the roof box also blew onto the opposite lane towards Gießen, posing a hazard to traffic.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident. However, it caused a traffic situation, and during the collection of the cargo, two lanes heading towards Aschaffenburg and one lane heading towards Gießen were temporarily closed. Items such as clothing were scattered across approximately 100 meters on two lanes of the highway.
The South East Hesse Police Headquarters (PPSOH) reported the incident, which was captured in images by the police. The initial report described the contents as a trash bag, but it was later revealed to be the complete contents of a roof box.
The 59-year-old driver from the Lahn-Dill district, who was unable to fit the contents of the roof box back into his vehicle, had to call his son and postpone his planned Croatia vacation. The driver will now face an administrative offense procedure and will likely need to purchase a new roof box.
