Authorities have obtained the contents of a rooftop container.
In an unexpected turn of events on Tuesday evening, a roof box filled with various contents opened on the A45 motorway near Langenselbold junction, heading towards Aschaffenburg. The incident, which occurred around 7:30 PM, was captured in images by PP Southeast Hesse.
The 59-year-old driver from the Lahn-Dill district found himself in a predicament, unable to fit the contents back into his vehicle. As a result, he had to call his son for assistance. A prompt response from a patrol from the Southeast Hesse Police Highway Station ensued, with a second patrol arriving to remove the remaining plastic covering and assist in collecting the luggage.
The scattered contents covered approximately 100 meters on two lanes of the motorway, with the upper part of the roof box blowing onto the opposite lane towards Giessen, posing a potential hazard to traffic. The incident caused temporary closures of two lanes in the direction of Aschaffenburg and one lane in the direction of Giessen.
The head of the South East Hessen police authority involved in the event is Police Chief Commissioner Timo Rosenberger. He is the current leader of the South East Hessen police highway station and succeeded Christian Kreß.
The 59-year-old driver will now face an administrative offence procedure. Unfortunately, the incident has also led to a postponement of his planned holiday in Croatia. It is likely that he will need to purchase a new roof box.
