Authorities in Hamburg collaborate to tackle illegal labor and unauthorized employment within the logistics sector

The Hamburg Customs Office has confirmed that several logistics companies in Hamburg and the Hannover region are currently under investigation by the Hamburg public prosecutor's office. Five responsible persons from these companies are suspected of not properly registering their employees with social security and embezzling social security contributions.

On June 5, 2025, the Financial Control of Illegal Work in Hamburg conducted 13 search warrants in both cities. These searches took place on residential and business premises, with the aim of securing evidence in two ongoing investigation procedures.

During the searches, various documents were taken for review. The investigations allege that the accused concealed illegal employment relationships by using sham and cover invoices to simulate third-party services. It is suspected that these actions were taken to generate cash flows for the perpetrators.

The Hamburg Public Prosecutor's Office is leading the investigations, with the searches being carried out on their behalf. The Hamburg Customs Office is the point of contact for press inquiries, and the contact person is Annet Molter. Her email address is [email protected], and her telephone number is 040-80003-1054.

The official website of the Hamburg Customs Office is www.zoll.de. It is important to note that until a final conviction, the presumption of innocence applies to the targeted individuals.

The Hamburg Customs Office urges anyone with information regarding illegal employment practices or social security fraud to come forward. The ongoing investigations serve to protect the rights of workers and uphold the integrity of the social security system.
