Authorities in Indonesia Confiscate $9.5 Million from Illegitimate Betting Operations
Indonesia Cracks Down on Illegal Online Gambling with Major Operation
Indonesia has taken a significant step in its efforts to combat illegal online gambling, with the authorities launching a major operation against individuals involved in such activities. The operation, confirmed by senior commissioner Fredy Saragih, was conducted by the Indonesian authorities and targeted 811 separate bank accounts within the country.
Senior commissioner Saragih, who heads the Bareskrim's cybercrime unit, stated that the operation was based on strong suspicions of involvement in illegal gambling. The Financial Services Authority of Indonesia played a significant role in tracking these cybercrimes, issuing an order in August to suspend 26,000 bank accounts identified by investigators as linked to illegal gambling activities.
The Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK) of Indonesia also issued a similar order in July, resulting in the blocking of 17,000 accounts. The total value of gambling-related transactions handled by the suspended accounts in August is approximately $61 million, with the seized funds amounting to $9.5 million.
The country has been enforcing its draconian anti-gambling laws with unflagging commitment. Indonesia pays close attention to financial institutions in its efforts to combat illegal gambling online. The National Police's Criminal Investigation Agency was responsible for the operation to seize funds tied to illegal gambling in Indonesia, making it one of the biggest conducted by Indonesian authorities.
The operation against online gambling in Indonesia is one of the largest stings, reflecting the authorities' proactive approach to combating such activities. The authorities in Indonesia have been consistently active in this regard, with the operation being just the latest in a series of efforts to curb illegal gambling online.
This operation is a testament to Indonesia's commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly digital environment, ensuring the safety and security of its citizens. As the digital world continues to evolve, it is expected that the Indonesian authorities will continue to adapt and evolve their strategies to combat illegal activities online, including illegal gambling.
