Authorities issues alert on financial deceit

In the city of Halle (Saale), two male suspects, aged 31 and 28, have been arrested by the local police precinct in an investigation into an attempted book scam.

The arrests took place at a residential address in Halle (Saale) following a report made by a local resident, a 68-year-old woman, who had been targeted by the same suspects. The woman had been contacted by an unknown perpetrator, who offered to resell her high five-figure Euro book collection for a low six-figure Euro range.

The meeting for the alleged book sale was arranged at the woman's apartment. However, the woman was familiar with the scam used by the perpetrators and immediately notified the local police after the call.

During the planned sales conversation, the perpetrators aimed to have the woman hand over a mid-five-figure Euro amount from her assets or secure a loan. Instead, the police were waiting and apprehended the suspects when they returned the next day to complete the fraudulent sale.

Personal data was recorded, and potential evidence was secured during the arrest. The suspects are the same individuals who were familiar to the woman as scammers and who had previously offered to resell her book collection.

The apprehension of the suspects occurred after the woman notified the local police about the scam. The suspects are also believed to have aimed to secure a mid-five-figure Euro amount from the woman or secure a loan.

The 68-year-old did not have any further contact with the perpetrators after the planned sales conversation. The Halle Police Precinct is continuing its investigation into the case.
