Fire in Underground Garage in Lünen's Geistviertel

A fire broke out in an underground garage in the Geistviertel area of Lünen early this morning (01.08.). The incident occurred around 5:30 AM, initially reported as a burning trash can on Luisenhüttenstraße.

Upon arrival, firefighters and police observed a strong smoke emission from the nearby underground garage. Flames from the underground garage reached several meters high from the ventilation shafts, causing extensive damage.

The underground garage was completely destroyed, and the damage caused by the fire is estimated to be in the millions. A total of 15 vehicles were damaged in the fire, with two cars parked above the garage burning completely.

The smoke from the fire led to the evacuation of four adjacent residential buildings. A support bus was provided for the evacuated residents. In total, 27 people were examined by the emergency medical services as a precaution. Three individuals required treatment, and one person suffered minor injuries as a result of the fire. A 43-year-old Lünen resident was among those injured, suffering minor injuries from the smoke.

The Dortmund Police are seeking witnesses around 5:30 AM who may have information related to the fire. They can contact the Criminal Watch at 0231/132-7441. Initial findings suggest that the underground garage was fully engulfed in flames upon the arrival of emergency services.

The Criminal Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire. The Dortmund Police also urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and help with the investigation. The area was cordoned off, and the smoke emission was contained to prevent further spread.
