Authority urges immediate measures in areas with COVID-19 surge

In a call for "very determined" action, Helge Braun, the Chief of Staff of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), has highlighted the urgent need for measures to combat the rising coronavirus infections. Particular concern has been expressed for cities where the incidence of new cases exceeds 50, with numbers increasing rapidly.

Braun emphasised that an accommodation ban is not necessary when applying the regional hotspot strategy. However, stopping the spread of the infection may require very drastic measures, and the effectiveness of these measures is not just about what's on paper, but what's actually happening in the city.

The city-states have been urged to enforce these measures with vigilance. Braun has been in "intensive talks" with major cities like Berlin and Bremen regarding this matter.

In Berlin and Bremen, specific measures or their agreements have not been mentioned in available search results, leaving no precise information about discussed or agreed-upon measures.

Contact tracing in health departments may no longer be effective in some places due to the rapid increase in new infections. Regaining control over these regions can be achieved by reconsidering contact restrictions, and this should be done regionally.

Braun also referred to a "difficult phase" regarding travel restrictions among federal states. If the numbers get out of control now, it may lead to a loss of control over the infection numbers.

However, Braun mentioned that a consensus was reached yesterday to use an accommodation ban as a means of control, if needed, due to it being the mildest and simplest option.

Many states with lower infection numbers are concerned about the virus spreading from hotspot regions to them, according to Braun. It is necessary to quickly regain control over the regions where the incidence of new infections is high to prevent further spread.
