Automaker GWM has equipped the H6 SUV model with plug-in power technology, available exclusively in New Zealand.

Great Wall Motor (GWM), under the Haval brand, has expanded the H6 SUV lineup with the addition of a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. This new offering is now available on the top Ultra specification of the H6 SUV.

Both PHEV variants of the H6 SUV come standard with a CCS2 charging port. Fast DC charging is possible for both, taking the battery from 30-80% in under 30 minutes. The PHEV powertrain is not available on all models of the H6 SUV; it is only available on the top Ultra specification.

The 2WD PHEV version of the H6 SUV costs $50,990, a $5000 premium over the standard non-plug-in hybrid. The AWD PHEV version of the H6 SUV costs $53,990.

Both Ultra PHEV models of the H6 SUV employ a 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine paired with dual electric motors. The AWD PHEV H6 SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in 4.9 seconds, making it a swift and responsive vehicle. The PHEV range of the H6 SUV is less powerful than the high-performance coupe-style H6 GT, with the 2WD making 240kW/540Nm and the AWD delivering 268kW/760Nm.

The PHEV range of the H6 SUV is backed by GWM Care, which includes a 7-year unlimited kilometre vehicle warranty. It also comes with a 5-year roadside assistance under GWM Care. The PHEV range of the H6 SUV is also covered by GWM Care's 8-year unlimited kilometre battery warranty.

The Ultra PHEV models of the H6 SUV come with a panoramic sunroof and a 14.6-inch touchscreen with wireless phone projection. They also feature a 360-degree surround view camera with transparent chassis display. The Ultra PHEV models of the H6 SUV also have heated and ventilated front seats.

The AWD PHEV version of the H6 SUV features GWM's Hi4 (Hybrid Intelligent 4WD) system.

The manufacturer officially launched the PHEV variant of the H6 SUV in China on September 28, 2022, with further new electrified variants introduced globally around September 2025.

In summary, the H6 SUV from GWM now offers a plug-in hybrid powertrain, adding another eco-friendly option to its lineup. The PHEV models are available on the top Ultra specification, and they offer fast charging, a spacious interior with premium features, and a smooth, powerful drive.
