Autonomous Driving Performance of Tesla FSD 14 Surpasses Human Drivers by Two to Three Times, Claims Musk

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, has announced that the next major Full Self-Driving (FSD) release, Version 14, is expected to significantly outperform human drivers. In a series of tweets on Saturday, Musk hyped the update as Tesla's second biggest ever, after V12.

According to Musk, V14 will be powered by a model with 10 times more parameters than the current release, promising a dramatic gain in performance. The improvement in safety for V14, he said, will be 2-3 times that of human drivers.

James Douma, a longtime Tesla FSD beta tester, believes V14 will cement Tesla's path to better-than-human driving. Douma, who previously praised V12 as delivering over a 100x reduction in driver interventions compared to V11, suggested that V14 could be 10 times better than human drivers.

Musk tempered expectations, stating that while V14 will surpass human performance, it will only reach 2-3X improvements in safety. He added that V15 has "a shot" at achieving the 10X benchmark.

The public rollout of FSD 14, if everything goes according to plan, would be nearly a year after Tesla began rolling out V12. The update is currently in training and testing, with a potential public rollout scheduled for late September.

Musk also promised that V14 will feel sentient and alive. The update is expected to reduce the frequency of driver attention reminders, making it even more autonomous than previous versions.

The comments were in response to longtime Tesla FSD beta tester @jamesdouma, who suggested that V14 could be as much as 10X better than human drivers. The announcement has sparked excitement among Tesla enthusiasts, who are eagerly awaiting the release of V14.

With V14, Tesla continues to push the boundaries of autonomous driving technology, striving to create a self-driving car that outperforms human drivers. The upcoming release is set to be a major milestone in Tesla's journey towards achieving fully autonomous driving.
