Autonomous e-ATAK bus services by Karsan set to commence for passengers in Paris.
Karsan, a leading Turkish bus and truck manufacturer, is set to make a significant stride in Europe's mobility transformation with the deployment of its autonomous e-ATAK bus in Paris. The vehicle, underpinned by ADASTEC's Level 4 software, is slated to commence passenger transport services from September 2025.
This cooperation between Karsan and RATP, the public transport operator in the Paris region, marks a new milestone for Karsan's presence in Europe. It also reflects Karsan's broader goals for low-emission, technology-enabled public mobility.
The e-ATAK bus has previously been deployed in cities including Stavanger (Norway), Prague, and Istanbul, as part of pilot projects across several European countries. The Paris trial, particularly relevant for fixed-route services and lower-density areas, is expected to inform future decisions about the broader use of autonomous minibuses in urban transport.
The 8-metre e-ATAK will run along the 4.5-kilometre Route 393 between Sucy-Bonneuil RER and Thiais-Carrefour de la Résistance. During the initial six-month period, the vehicle will operate in mixed traffic, with passengers on board.
The e-ATAK bus is currently undergoing a series of static and dynamic assessments by UTAC, France's national vehicle testing and certification authority. These assessments are due to conclude at the end of August.
RATP's ongoing efforts to assess autonomous solutions in public transport include this project, which aims to pave the way for sustainable and smart mobility in the future. The results of the Paris trial may impact the future use of autonomous minibuses in urban transport decisions.
The Autonomous e-ATAK bus, developed in collaboration with ADASTEC, is a Level 4 autonomous vehicle. Karsan received Level 4 autonomous approval in Germany in 2025, following the launch of the e-ATAK bus as part of the Self Controlled City Liner project in Arbon.
With this cooperation, Karsan will be reflecting its technology and vision to steer Europe's mobility transformation. The Paris deployment of the e-ATAK bus is a new milestone in this journey.
