Award for Preserving Ancient Landmarks

The German National Committee for Heritage Conservation (DNK) will honour Ingrid Girrbach with the German Heritage Award 2025, the highest honour for civic engagement in heritage conservation. The announcement was made in a Press Release issued on July 17, 2025.

Girrbach, a dedicated volunteer, has been committed to preserving the German Steam Locomotive and Model Railway Museum in Tuttlingen for over 30 years. The museum, which she founded, is a four-hectare site that attracts national attention due to its unique combination of heritage conservation, technical history, and volunteer engagement.

The museum houses 26 steam locomotives, several diesel and electric locomotives, historic passenger, sleeping, and freight cars, and many other exhibits. It includes a seven-stall roundhouse, a fully functional turntable, and other facilities from the active period of the railway workshop.

The museum offers guided tours, lectures, and interactive activities for all age groups, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. This commitment to education and engagement is a testament to Girrbach's dedication to preserving the museum's rich history.

The German Heritage Award 2025 ceremony will take place in Berlin on November 3, 2025. The award, the Silver Half-Globe, recognises Girrbach's exceptional work in preserving the museum and promoting heritage conservation.

For more information about the awards ceremony, please refer to the Press Release, which can be accessed via the Press Office's external link. The Citizen's Representative can also be contacted via a contact form on the DNK's website, and the Press Office can be contacted via email.

The Tuttlingen museum's unique blend of heritage conservation, technical history, and volunteer engagement has made it a shining example of the power of community spirit in preserving our nation's history. The German National Committee for Heritage Conservation's decision to honour Ingrid Girrbach with the German Heritage Award 2025 is a testament to her dedication and the impact she has had on the preservation of Germany's rich heritage.
