Baseball player George Springer of the Blue Jays reportedly hit hard in the head by a pitch in a disturbing moment on the field.
In a tense ninth inning at Camden Yards on Monday night, Toronto Blue Jays outfielder George Springer was hit by a 96 mph pitch from Kade Stroud. Springer was able to walk back to the dugout, flanked by two members of the team's staff.
The extent of any injuries related to the hit is not known, according to a report by The Toronto Star. After being struck, Springer immediately went down into the dirt, but he appeared to mouth the word "wow" as the Blue Jays medical staff looked at him. He lay motionless for several moments before starting to move.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider expressed concern about the high pitch, stating, "You don't think about baseball. You think about the human." However, he added that Springer is doing "all right" after the incident. Schneider also mentioned that Springer was able to turn a little bit after being hit, which might have helped him avoid more serious injury.
The Blue Jays have had their fair share of injury issues this season. All-Star catcher Alejandro Kirk is dealing with a concussion and is looking like he'll return closer to the weekend. Despite this, the Blue Jays have managed to maintain their position at the top of the American League East, holding a 5 1⁄2 -game lead over the Yankees.
The game between the Blue Jays and the Orioles ended with a score of 11-4 in favor of the Orioles. Despite the loss, Springer has had a successful season for Toronto, hitting .291 and recording 18 home runs.
As for Springer's current health status, there are no available reports or information. However, it's clear that the Blue Jays and their fans will be keeping a close eye on his recovery.
