Bavaria Aid Transport: Essential Supplies Delivered Following Libya's Floods - THW Dispatches Vital Resources

Germany's THW Sends Aid to Disaster-Stricken Libya

The Technical Relief Organisation (THW) of Germany is sending its first delivery of aid supplies to the disaster area in Libya, following heavy rainfall and flooding caused by the Mediterranean storm "Daniel". The aid delivery, coordinated via the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, includes essential items such as 100 tents with lighting, 1,000 field beds, 1,000 blankets, 1,000 sleeping mats, and 80 power generators.

Libya has issued an international appeal for help and requested aid supplies for the population affected by the floods. Over 5,300 deaths have been reported, and thousands are still missing. The aid supply delivery is commissioned by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community and funded by the Federal Foreign Office.

The THW, a sought-after supporter for fire services, police, aid organizations, and others due to its specialist knowledge and diverse experiences, is deploying this aid within the framework of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism and on behalf of UN organizations. The Bavarian transport team, consisting of 15 volunteer THW personnel from various regions in Bavaria, will transport a portion of the aid supplies from the Bavarian THW logistics center in Obernburg by truck and trailers to an airport.

The loading of the aid supplies will begin tonight at 6:00 PM, and the transport team will set off overnight to the airport, covering over 400 kilometers. The THW's work in civil protection is based on the commitment of its volunteers, with over 80,000 volunteers nationwide, half of whom are operational personnel.

For inquiries, the THW Regional Association Bavaria can be contacted at (089) 15 91 51-441 or [email protected]. The name of the team leader for the THW aid supplies delivery to Libya was not mentioned in the available search results; the information is currently not publicly available.

The affected regions in Libya have been declared disaster areas. The THW is deployed worldwide on behalf of the federal government for technical and logistical assistance. The Mediterranean storm "Daniel" caused heavy rainfall and flooding in Libya, exacerbating the already dire situation. The THW's aid delivery is a significant step towards providing relief to those affected by the disaster.
