Bayern triumphs over Bayer Leverkusen in a dual-goal performance, setting a new attendance record for the match

In a thrilling opening match of the 2022/23 Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich secured a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at the Allianz Arena, with 57,762 spectators in attendance.

The match started with a chance for Leverkusen's striker, Lea Schüller, who missed a goal opportunity in the second minute. Despite the early setback, Leverkusen seemed to play more freely due to the large crowd, with defender Wamser initiating attacks from the right defense.

However, Bayern Munich, led by new coach José Barcala, struggled to find their rhythm in the early stages of the game. Creativity and flair were lacking, and the Munich team seemed uninspired, with hardly any chances in the first half.

Coach Barcala reacted to his team's poor performance by bringing on Klara Bühl for Schüller, adding freshness and pace. The move paid off, as Vanessa Gilles headed in Klara Bühl's corner for Bayern's first goal in the 76th minute. Just a minute later, Klara Bühl scored her own goal, securing a 2-0 lead for Bayern.

The first half was a different story for Bayer Leverkusen, who played better and showed some attacking flair. Leverkusen coach Roberto Pätzold had stated before the match that they wanted to play a great game, and they came close on several occasions. Lilla Turanyi was unlucky not to get a penalty after being pulled by Magdalena Eriksson, and Jovana Damnjanovic nearly put Leverkusen ahead in the 68th minute, hitting the bar.

Giulia Gwinn, Bayern's injured player, expressed concerns about Leverkusen's attacks during the half-time interview. The second half saw a more inspired Bayern Munich, who managed to capitalise on their chances and secure the win.

Pernille Harder was brought on by Bayern to take control of the game, and her presence seemed to lift the team. The match ended with Bayern Munich kicking off their Bundesliga season with a home win, while Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to bounce back in their next game.
