BBC Breakfast's hosts Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt may depart following the exoneration of the show's embattled manager from bullying allegations
BBC Breakfast, the award-winning morning show, has been embroiled in a controversy following an investigation into the behaviour of its editor, Richard Frediani.
Richard Frediani, known for his old-school working practices, was the subject of a bullying investigation. The inquiry, initially revealed by The Sun in June, sparked counter-claims against the show's main hosts, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt.
According to reports, Munchetty once laid into an intern for incorrectly spreading Marmite on her toast. The investigation, however, did not uphold complaints against Munchetty and Stayt.
Frediani was cleared of the bullying allegations, but a female editor's complaint against him, alleging he shook her, was upheld. The name of this editor remains undisclosed.
Following the investigation, Frediani feels that it was a "witch hunt" and that it has taken a toll on him. However, he is continuing his work, having been backed by Beeb bosses and set to remain in his role on daytime and News At One.
Despite the clearance, the hosts of BBC Breakfast, Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt, remain under review as part of a "listening" investigation led by HR. Reports suggest that they are considering leaving BBC Breakfast due to perceived bias in the investigation.
The investigation into Frediani's behaviour was a significant event for BBC Breakfast. Both Munchetty and Stayt were involved in counter-claims that were triggered by the investigation. The BBC spokesman stated that they take all complaints about conduct at work extremely seriously.
