BCCI Set to Appoint New President and IPL Chairperson During Annual General Meeting on September 28th

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to elect its new President and Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman on September 28, as confirmed by a communication from the national governing body to the state associations on Saturday.

The vacancy for the President's post arose following the exit of Roger Binny earlier this month. Binny had to vacate his position due to reaching the age of 70, as per the BCCI constitution.

The election is for all key posts in the BCCI, but it is effectively only for the position of the President, as others are likely to continue in their roles. Devajit Saikia was unanimously elected as the BCCI Secretary in January this year, and Rohan Gauns Desai was elected as the joint secretary in March. Jay Shah, who was previously the BCCI Secretary, took over the role as Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC).

However, no specific details about the candidates for the President position were provided. The AGM's agenda also includes the election and induction for one representative of the general body and induction of two representatives of the Indian Cricketer's Association in the apex council.

Additionally, the AGM will appoint the BCCI Ombudsman and Ethics Officer, and the board's representative on the ICC will be chosen during the AGM. IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal is likely to go for a mandatory cool-off period after completing a cumulative period of six years.

The exact date for the AGM has not been specified yet, but it will take place after September 6, 2025. Prabhtej Bhatia was elected as the treasurer of the BCCI in January along with Devajit Saikia.

The search results do not provide information on which candidate will be elected as the new president of the BCCI at the Annual General Meeting on September 28, 2025. More details about the candidates and the AGM are expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
