Berlin Bans Dangerous Objects on Stations After Axe Incident
A 47-year-old man from Ibbenbüren was arrested at Lübbecke station for illegally trespassing on tracks. He also had an outstanding warrant for failing to pay a €900 fine. Meanwhile, a man was reported to have an axe on a train between Saalfeld and Erfurt, threatening passengers at Erfurt Central Station. The axe was confiscated, and the man was arrested.
The Federal Police Directorate in Berlin has issued a temporary ordinance prohibiting the carrying of dangerous objects on Berlin's main railway stations from October 1 to 27, 2025, between 2 PM and 4 AM the following day. This comes in response to recent incidents, including a man threatening passengers with an axe on a train.
In a separate incident, teenagers allegedly threw an e-scooter from a bridge onto the track of the U1 in Hamburg, stopping a U-Bahn with 100 passengers for around 1.5 hours. The 25-year-old man responsible for the delay had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.3%.
A 31-year-old Ukrainian national is accused of stealing a backpack from a stationary ICE 920 on platform 8 at Hamburg's main railway station, containing 150 euros in cash, a MacBook, and travel documents.
A dispute over a parked bicycle in a train led to an argument between a 74-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman. The man allegedly twisted the woman's finger, and the woman allegedly punched the man in the head.
In a worrying incident, a woman's smartphone was stolen on an escalator at Erfurt's main railway station by an unknown man captured on CCTV.
These incidents highlight the importance of maintaining safety and order on public transportation. Authorities are reminding passengers to be vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour. The temporary ordinance in Berlin is a step towards enhancing security on railway stations.
