Berlin experiences blackout, arson assault by suspected extremists under investigation - Berlin faces power outage, authorities suspect arson by extremist elements

In the early hours of this morning, a power outage affected approximately 43,000 households, 3,000 businesses, and two nursing homes in southeastern Berlin. The incident, which started around 3:30 AM, was preceded by an alarm raised by the police at 3 AM.

The cause of the power outage is believed to be a politically motivated arson attack, with the police suspecting extremist motives. The suspected arson attack on two high-voltage masts in the Berlin district of Johannisthal was carried out by unknown perpetrators.

The perpetrators are believed to have used an accelerant, such as gasoline, in the attack. The two tall power masts on Königsheideweg were damaged and partly destroyed by the fire. It took firefighters an hour to extinguish the blaze.

As a result of the power outage, traffic lights and street lighting failed, causing potential disruptions to traffic flow in the affected areas. The state's criminal police for politically motivated crimes are leading the investigations into the incident.

A claimed responsibility letter allegedly from left-wing extremists is currently being examined for authenticity. However, the political direction of the attackers has not yet been determined.

The authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the police. They assure residents that they are doing everything possible to restore power and ensure the safety of the affected communities.
