BHC aims to instigate a gateway
The Bergisch Hockey Club (BHC) is gearing up for the upcoming season of the 1st Bundesliga, filled with optimism and determination. With the team's morale high after 18 consecutive wins in competitive games, the officials believe this could be their last chance to secure a spot in the league.
Coach Markus Puetz aims to keep BHC in the league and re-establish themselves in the medium term. He has been working tirelessly to prepare the team, with the exception of a temporary illness affecting Nico Schoettle. The squad is almost complete, with key players such as Soren Steinhaus, Nico Schoettle, Lars Kooij, and Tomas Babak all set to join the team.
BHC has been rated 18th, a position that Arnor Gunnarsson, the team's coach partner, sees as an incentive. He notes that the team has played with both 5:1 and 3:3 defense variants in test games, and they should be prepared for everything. Despite the challenges, the BHC professionals believe in their outsider chance.
Captain Christopher Rudeck acknowledges that there may be phases without consecutive wins, but emphasises the importance of staying focused during such phases. Captain Tomas Babak echoes this sentiment, highlighting the team's high reliability in the partner structure and their unity with the spectators.
However, the situation is becoming increasingly challenging to equip the BHC for the 1st league due to the hall issue. Fortunately, the BHC officials are pleased that plans to build a modern playing venue in Wuppertal are gaining momentum. The exact initiator of these plans remains undisclosed.
Financially, the BHC has shown impressive resilience. Last season, they wrote a "black zero" with a budget of about 3.5 million euros, and plans are in place for a budget of four to five million euros for the new season. This fiscal prudence, coupled with the advantage of having new players without 1st Bundesliga experience, according to Fabian Gutbrod, the sports director, could work in BHC's favour.
Mathias Gidsel and Max Darj have rated the BHC coaches higher than last season, a testament to the hard work and dedication put in by the coaching staff. As the season approaches, the BHC team is ready to take on the challenges that lie ahead, driven by their determination to succeed.
