BHC to Persist with the "Rhythm" Strategy
The handball scene was abuzz with excitement this week as two of Germany's top teams, BHC and Bergische, faced off against their respective opponents. However, both teams ended up on the losing side, with BHC falling to the Upper Franconians and Bergische losing to the Swabians.
In the BHC versus Upper Franconians match, the home team started strong, maintaining their tempo throughout the game. The Upper Franconians, playing their first win of the season, fought back valiantly, eventually taking the lead in the final five minutes. BHC's shots were sometimes unprepared during this period, allowing Erlangen to score consistently and secure the victory. More than 2,000 BHC fans left the university hall disappointed after the game.
Meanwhile, the Bergische team had led for 55 minutes before the loss against the Swabians. Coach Pütz expressed his disappointment at not holding onto the lead for 60 minutes. The Swabians, under the guidance of new coach Sebastian Hoeneß, played with a relatively unusual system in attack, featuring four backs and no center forward. Simone Mengon and Kai Häfner, the performance carriers for the Swabians, were instrumental in the game, with Häfner scoring 19 season goals.
The Swabians, who drew 29:29 against SG Flensburg-Handewitt in their previous game, were in good spirits heading into the match. The Bergische team, on the other hand, reduced their technical errors from 17 to 8 compared to their previous game.
Looking ahead, the BHC team will hold their final training on Friday and travel to Stuttgart afterwards for their next game against Erlangen on Wednesday evening. The BHC coaches have mentioned that a few more units would help with their preparation for the game. Pütz, another coach for BHC, suggests that Stuttgart needs to change their formation to play both ways.
The Swabians will play their next game in the Stuttgart Porsche Arena, where they will have a smaller support compared to their previous game. The status of Søren Servos, who was out with an abdominal muscle strain in the previous game, is still uncertain for the upcoming game. Belal Massoud remains sidelined with a muscle fiber tear.
Coach Misha Kaufmann of the Swabians, who has established his system in the past two years at ThSV Eisenach, believes in maintaining their tempo idea for the upcoming game. Gunnarsson, another coach for Bergische, noted good tempo play in the first half but lamented the team's inability to hold onto the lead. The BHC coaches believe the atmosphere was excellent and essential for winning such games.
Despite the losses, both teams will look to regroup and come back stronger in their upcoming matches.
