Biker perishes in accident
A tragic incident occurred on Koepenick Street in Kreuzberg on Saturday afternoon, as a 64-year-old motorcyclist was involved in a traffic accident. Contrary to initial reports, the motorcyclist was a woman, not a man.
The accident took place at around 4:30 PM, and the motorcyclist was taken to a hospital with severe injuries. Despite the medical team's best efforts, she passed away in the hospital on Monday evening.
The woman was traveling on Koepenick Street towards Schlesisches Tor, using the bike lane on the right side of the road to overtake other vehicles. While attempting to swerve left to avoid a 63-year-old woman who was turning right into a property, the motorcyclist lost control and collided with the car of an oncoming 54-year-old man.
The 63-year-old woman and the 54-year-old man were uninjured in the accident.
The traffic investigation unit of Police Directorate 1 (North) has taken over the further investigation into the accident. However, the special commission of Police Directorate 5 (City), responsible for Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, is leading the investigations due to the location of the accident within their jurisdiction.
The investigation into the traffic accident is currently ongoing. Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the deceased motorcyclist during this difficult time.
