BJP Core Committee Discusses Bihar Election Strategy, Gandhi's Vote Rights March Becomes Focal Point
In a significant move, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) held a meeting in Delhi on Wednesday to discuss the campaign framework for the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections. The meeting, chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and attended by BJP president J. P. Nadda, Bihar in-charge Vinod Tawde, co-incharge Deepak Prakash, and senior state leaders including Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, aimed to assess the ground situation after the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-Congress's Vote Adhikar Yatra and create a broad outline for the election campaign.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, addressing the meeting, emphasized the importance of including strong candidates with public support for the Bihar election. He accused parties like the RJD of opposing women's progress and resisting women's reservation, and urged women in Bihar to hold the Opposition accountable for the abuse of mothers. Modi also expressed deep anguish over the alleged abuse of his mother during the RJD-Congress's Vote Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.
Modi claimed that during the RJD rule in Bihar, crime and criminals were rampant, and murder, extortion, and rape were common. He alleged that the RJD government shielded "murderers and rapists." These assertions were made as part of the BJP's strategy to highlight the corruption of the Lalu Prasad era and the corruption which uprooted the Congress from power in Bihar.
The meeting also discussed joint NDA camps across all 243 Assembly constituencies and countering the "confusing narrative" pushed by the Opposition. A Chunav Samiti will be formed to assess potential candidates and send the names to the national leadership. The decision on seat-sharing will be taken by the NDA's national leadership.
The campaign will focus on themes such as women's empowerment, the "dark days" of RJD rule, exposing the "overall corruption of the Congress," promoting the NDA government's development agenda, and clarifying Constitutional provisions related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Modi described mothers as being considered even above gods and goddesses, and emphasized their role in providing education and upbringing to children, instilling high values in them.
Modi indirectly criticized "young princes born into royal families" for not understanding the penance of a poor mother and the suffering of her son. He also accused the Congress of being unable to accept backward and extremely backward communities advancing in politics.
More consultations are expected in the coming days, including with NDA partners, likely when alliance MPs gather in Delhi for the September 9 Vice-Presidential election. The BJP's outreach will also highlight the corruption of the Lalu Prasad era and the corruption which uprooted the Congress from power in Bihar.
