BMI urges Ditib to unequivocally oppose Islamist extremism and anti-Semitic attitudes

The Federal Ministry of the Interior (BMI) in Germany has set clear prerequisites for cooperation with the Mosque Association Ditib, following a conference of Islamic scholars in Istanbul at the end of August.

The conference, which included the participation of Diyanet President Ali Erbas, resulted in a resolution that supported the armed struggle of Hamas against Israel and called for a "global jihad." This event has sparked criticism towards Ditib, with the BMI expressing concern over their structural and personnel ties with the Turkish religious authority.

In response, the BMI has urged Ditib to distance itself from Islamism and anti-Semitism, and to commit to the value order of the Basic Law, interreligious dialogue, the right of Israel to exist, and a commitment against Islamism and anti-Semitism. The BMI also expects Ditib to distance itself from individuals and organizations spreading anti-Semitic narratives and supporting Islamist endeavors.

The training of Ditib imams is being conducted in collaboration with the Islam College Germany e.V., not the Turkish religious authority Diyanet. The BMI has provided 465,000 euros for the training of Ditib imams this year, but has not specified any new financial details regarding the training of Ditib imams.

The continuation of the training initiative for Ditib imams will depend on Ditib's behavior and the success of the process. The BMI's stance towards Ditib is influenced by their participation in events that support armed struggle of Hamas against Israel and call for a "global jihad."

The goal of ending the sending of imams by Ditib remains current, according to the BMI. The BMI has expressed its concern over the implications of foreign government influence and control in future cooperation with associations and federations.

In summary, the BMI has set clear prerequisites for cooperation with Ditib, including a commitment to the value order of the Basic Law, interreligious dialogue, the right of Israel to exist, and a commitment against Islamism and anti-Semitism. The continuation of the training initiative for Ditib imams will depend on Ditib's behavior and the success of the process, as they are expected to distance themselves from Islamism and anti-Semitism, and from individuals and organizations spreading anti-Semitic narratives and supporting Islamist endeavors.
