BMW announces the end of M 8 Series production with a retro-themed Edition M Heritage model

BMW has announced the release of a special edition of the M850i Gran Coupe, the M850i Edition M Heritage, which pays homage to the original 8 Series (E31) sold between 1990 and 1999.

Priced at US$131,575 including destination charges, the M850i Edition M Heritage is approximately US$23,000 more expensive than the regular M850i Gran Coupe. This exclusive model will be limited to just 500 units, making it a coveted collector's item.

Under the hood, the M850i Edition M Heritage boasts a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine, producing an impressive 390 kW and 750 Nm of torque. With an acceleration from 0-100 km/h in just 3.9 seconds, this vehicle promises a thrilling driving experience.

The M850i Edition M Heritage is based on the M850i xDrive Gran Coupe and comes equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system. It also features a carbon-fibre roof, M division's signature tri-colour stripes, 20-inch M Dual-Spoke Orbit Grey wheels, and upgraded brakes with black calipers.

Buyers can choose from five paint finishes taken directly from that era - Bright Red, Mauritius Blue, Cosmos Black, Oxford Green, and Daytona Violet. In keeping with the retro theme, the M850i Edition M Heritage retains the same mechanicals as the standard M850i.

The Driving Assistance Professional Package is also standard in the M850i Edition M Heritage, ensuring a safe and comfortable ride. The Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System is standard as well, promising an immersive audio experience.

BMW has confirmed that the M850i Edition M Heritage will be exclusively offered in the USA, Canada, and South Korea. Deliveries are expected to begin early next year, with production starting late in 2025.

Interestingly, the M850i Edition M Heritage marks the end of the 8 Series M car line. BMW is closing a chapter in its performance car history with this special edition model. Optional extras are not available beyond paint choice, making each unit truly unique.

The M850i Edition M Heritage tops out at an electronically capped speed of 250 km/h, ensuring a balance between performance and safety. Despite its limited production, this special edition vehicle is not a departure from the brand's core values but rather a celebration of its rich history.

In conclusion, the M850i Edition M Heritage is a must-have for any BMW enthusiast and a testament to the enduring appeal of the first-generation 8 Series. With its unique features, limited production, and nod to the past, this vehicle is sure to be a hit among collectors and driving enthusiasts alike.
