BMW Aims High with Electrified Vehicle Lineup

BMW has made significant strides in the electric vehicle market, selling over 100,000 electrified cars in 2017, a 60% increase from the previous year. This total includes not just battery electric vehicles (BEVs), but also electrified cars like the 2 Series Active Tourer Plug-in Hybrid.

The company's success in the electric market has given BMW a 10% global share, a testament to their commitment to sustainable mobility. The BMW i Vision Dynamics, unveiled in 2017, is set to transform into the electric BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe by 2020.

Looking ahead, BMW has exciting plans for its electrified vehicle lineup. The MINI EV and the electric BMW X3 are expected to be among the next models to be released, with the MINI EV scheduled for launch in 2019. An electric version of the BMW X3 will be introduced in 2020, followed by the BMW iNEXT in 2021.

BMW has also trademarked names for future electric models, including the i1 to i9 and iX1 to iX9. By 2025, there will be 25 electrified BMW models available, providing customers with a wide range of options.

In a move to celebrate their achievement, BMW's Four-Cylinder building has been illuminated as a battery, symbolising the company's commitment to sustainable energy. BMW has also declared that they have no battery supply issues for their upcoming electric cars, joining Volvo in this declaration.

While other manufacturers like Volkswagen aim to sell over 100,000 electric ID.4 this year, BMW's future plans seem focused on quality rather than quantity. In 2021, Rivian is planning to produce around 150,000 electric vehicles, including electric SUVs, but BMW was not mentioned among manufacturers targeting over 100,000 electric SUV sales that year.

Regardless, BMW's dedication to electric vehicles and their innovative approach to sustainable mobility is clear, and they continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in the electric vehicle market.
