Boeing's Stock at a Promising Point Currently
Boeing, the American multinational corporation, is experiencing a significant turnaround under the leadership of its CEO, Kelly Ortberg. The company, which has a $619 billion backlog, is seeing potential for profit growth due to improved execution.
Ortberg, a veteran in the industry, joined Boeing after a stint at Collins Aerospace, where he served as CEO. His tenure at Boeing has been marked by a series of strategic decisions that have positively impacted the company's performance.
One of the key areas of improvement is Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), which has been generating profit again after a long period of losses. Under Ortberg, BDS has held its estimated-at-completion for the second consecutive quarter, a significant improvement. This turnaround is a key factor in Boeing's overall improved execution.
Ortberg's appointment at Boeing also marked a change at BDS. He replaced BDS CEO Ted Colbert with Steve Parker, a Boeing veteran. Parker, who was appointed in July 2025, is currently leading BDS.
The board's choice of Ortberg is seen as a good decision. Besides Ortberg and Parker, the Boeing board of directors has also seen the addition of industrial heavyweights such as David Gitlin, the CEO of Carrier Global, David Joyce, the former CEO of GE Aviation, and Akhil Johri, the former CFO of United Technologies.
Improving the production rate on the 737 MAX is crucial for growing profit margin and cash flow at Boeing. The company has already reached its initial target of 38 a month in the second quarter since Ortberg's appointment in August 2024. Boeing is aiming to increase its production rate of the 737 MAX from 38 to 42 a month, with approval from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expected soon.
Meanwhile, at United Technologies, Akhil Johri, the former CFO, generated significant returns for former General Electric investors under Larry Culp's leadership. However, it is yet to be seen if Culp can generate the same level of returns for Boeing shareholders.
The improvement at Boeing is a testament to Ortberg's leadership and the collective efforts of the board and the management team. As Boeing continues to make strides, it is poised to regain its position as a global leader in the aerospace industry.
