Boldest "Gold Heist on the Highway"

In an unusual turn of events, police in Cologne, Germany, took three suspects into custody on Tuesday afternoon (20th August) at the Cologne-Nord federal motorway interchange. The suspects, two men (25 and 30) and one woman (23), were apprehended after they were found to be involved in a suspicious activity.

According to reports, around 12:30 PM, the suspects flagged down drivers using hand signals, claiming they had run out of fuel and needed cash urgently to buy more. However, it is alleged that their true intention was not to buy fuel but to relieve passing motorists of their cash.

Fortunately, the approached drivers did not engage in the suspicious transaction but called the police instead. Upon arrival, officers found a bag full of "gold jewelry" in the Audi belonging to the suspects. Interestingly, it was discovered that the suspects had offered low-quality gold jewelry for exchange, which was likely part of their ruse.

Despite the search results not providing the first names of the three suspects, the police are urging witnesses with information about the incident or who were approached by the suspects to contact the detectives of the Criminal Commission 33. Witnesses can reach out to the authorities by phone at 0221 229-0 or by email at [email protected].

The three suspects, along with two young children (5 and 6) who were also in the vehicle, were taken to the station for further investigation. The fate of the alleged gold jewelry remains unknown at this point. The police are currently investigating the case and will provide updates as more information becomes available.
