Bomb Disarmed from World War II Era in Stuttgart, Temporarily Affecting Train Services

In the heart of Stuttgart, Germany, on the afternoon of September 15, 2025, an unexpected discovery was made at a construction site in the Untertürkheim district. A 250-kilogram heavy aircraft bomb was unearthed, causing a chain of events that would impact the lives of over 1,000 people.

The evacuation, with a radius of 250 meters around the discovery site in the Bad Cannstatt district, affected residential areas, railway tracks, and an industrial estate. Notably, parts of the buildings of the car manufacturer Mercedes were located in the evacuation area, specifically their administrative buildings.

As a result, long-distance trains had to end prematurely, and some were rerouted via Backnang/Treuchtlingen and Donauwoerer/Aalen. Train connections between Stuttgart and Ulm were interrupted in regional traffic.

The unexploded bomb was successfully defused by the fire department, and Deutsche Bahn announced that train traffic resumed at 20:15. However, travelers should still expect restrictions in train traffic in the evening after the bomb defusal.

During the evacuation, the sports hall of a school served as a reception center for the evacuated persons. No new information about train traffic was provided in this paragraph.

The bomb discovery not only affected a large company but also disrupted rail traffic in Stuttgart. The safety zone established to avoid dangers ensured the wellbeing of the community, and normalcy was gradually restored after the successful bomb defusal.
