Border Controls Expansively Implemented Across Harburg Region (Politics - WL)
In a coordinated effort to ensure public safety and maintain law and order, inspections and traffic checks were simultaneously carried out on the B73 in Neu Wulmstorf and Neugraben on September 26, 2024. This comprehensive operation involved multiple authorities, including police, customs, municipalities, trade supervision, and financial authorities.
The Police Station Harburg, led by Police Chief Inspector Sebastian Pölking, prepared the inspections on the Lower Saxony side. First Police Commissioner Peter Kasper, responsible for the areas adjacent to Hamburg, expressed satisfaction with the control, citing high personal commitment and effective use of networks.
Approximately 120 police officers and numerous employees participated in the operations, with regular mutual observations in the operations and patrol service having been ongoing since the beginning of 2024. The cooperation agreement between the police directorate Lüneburg and the police of Hamburg, concluded in 2019, facilitated the cross-border coordinated control action.
In Neu Wulmstorf, a total of 112 vehicles were checked during traffic controls, resulting in three drivers being found without a license and two drivers under the influence of drugs. Additionally, inspections of commercial establishments were conducted in Stade, Buxtehude, Neu Wulmstorf, Seevetal, and Winsen (Luhe).
Proceedings were initiated for suspected illegal employment, violations of food regulations, or tax offenses during these inspections. Kasper, the operation leader, bid farewell to his colleagues as he is retiring at the end of October.
